Dead-Of-Winter Routine to Ward Off Dry Skin
We are officially past the holidays and in the dead of winter. And I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve really been seeing the effect of the winter weather on my skin. I normally don’t change my entire routine seasonally—just adding in products here and there—but with the bi-polar weather, it seemed like a necessary action to take. I mean, seriously! Why is it 60 degrees one day, but then 28 degrees the next? Anyway, see below for my newest winter routine. Hopefully it will help your complexion as much as it has helped mine!
A SPLASH OF COLD WATER
I’m a strong believer that you shouldn’t wash away all of the oils on your skin…kind of like with your hair! And unless I’m feeling extremely sweaty or gross, I generally don’t wash my face with a cleanser in the morning. Instead, I splash my face with cold water a couple of times. The benefits? It wakes me (and my skin) up; brightens my complexion; and cleanses my pores.
I’ve been a huge fan of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream since I received last year after an event introducing one of their new serums. Not only does it do an amazing job at locking in moisture, but there is a low fragrance and feels light on your face. A lot goes a long way, too, so it’s well worth the money.
Not much has changed in this factor. I really love Ole Henriksen’s Banana Bright Eye Crème for my morning ritual. When I first purchased this little super hero at the beginning of Beautifulee, I had no idea how much I would end up loving it. Not only does it actually work to moisturize and even my skin tone, but it also works as a perfect primer before putting on my under eye concealer. I use my ring finger to gently pat the product into my under eye area, as it is one of the most fragile and irritable sections on your face.
This has been a newer addition to my skincare routine after receiving as a gift from OSEA Malibu (aka, one of my favorite brands ever!). I’ve used a lot of toners and sprays in the past, as I find that they really work to lock in my skincare and moisture, but none have been as powerful as this! The formula, itself, is this gorgeous red-orange color, and is loaded with antioxidants, organic algae, resveratrol and pomegranate. Perfect for refreshing your skin in harsh climates, I suggest bringing it with you in your purse to have throughout the day—especially on a below zero chill. This is my last step in my morning winter routine.
When I posted my Holistic Beauties giveaway in September, I had no idea how much this gadget would change my routine. Since giving one of these away, I have become OBSESSED with using it at night. With one press of a button, the cleanser vibrates and works your preferred cleanser (mine is below) into your pores to clean and detoxify. On top of it, the device brings your blood to the surface—rejuvenating cells to keep skin looking vibrant and youthful. After putting my cleanser on my BFF, I cleanse for about five minutes.
Matcha green tea, lavender, vitamin c and rose come together to cleanse, sooth and calm your skin. One or two pumps of this on my BFF and I’m set! Consistency: creamy. Scent: minimal.
There is truly nothing like slathering on a nice face oil after a long day at work. I’ve raved about Herb Market Botanicals in the past, but owner Melissa has truly outdone herself with the Daily Nourish Face Oil. A combination of rich botanical and super-seed oils that contain essential fatty acids, the powerful oil has a light earthy fragrance, and works intensely to moisturize and illuminate my skin overnight.
While I don’t use these every night, Skyn Iceland’s Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels are magic in a patch. I try to use these at least once a week, but am also known to save them for the evening before a big event at work. I’ve tried a lot of eye gels in the past, but these are the best! First, they stick on, so you can multitask rather than having to stay put for 15 minutes. But the true magic? The cooling sensation that you feel from the moment you put them on. True bliss. I leave them on for a full 20 minutes after applying my Daily Nourish.
Since I have really dark circles (half genetic, but also half because I am constantly working in front of my computer), I really pay attention to hydrating my under eye. To finish off my evening routine, I use one pump per under eye, and pat on using my ring finger. The satiny and creamy texture feels really luxurious before I go to bed!
