About a week or two ago, I came across Complex Beauty during an early evening Instagram search for new products. I saw that the company's team was giving away free samples of their new masks, leaving only shipping to be paid. So, of course, I took advantage of it.

Getting the free mask was actually pretty cool. Rather than just letting you order one, I was prompted to take a quiz of sorts to tell them what my problem areas were and how my skin was at the time (dry, oily, red, etc.). Based on what I chose, they were going to send me the best mask that would work for me. Pretty cool, right? Immediately, they care.

I chose normal skin that occasionally gets irritated and red, and is slightly sensitive. Seems a bit complicated, but hey, I am who I am. In response, I received the Ocean Potion Mineral Mask ($35). I couldn't wait to use it, so I had to open it right away (what else is new).

What does it look / feel like?

I always use a makeup brush to put masks on my face, especially if they are creamy. HINT: This one is. The Ocean Potion Mineral Mask is a latte-colored cream that smooths onto your face beautifully. It's extremely light, and gets whiter as it dries. It isn't sticky, and is super easy to rinse off. Basically, it's a low-maintenance dream.

What is it supposed to do?

After doing some research on the website, this particular mask is seaweed-enriched and is made to balance, calm and nourish your skin—especially when it's having "one of those days." And after binge eating, working out and high levels of stress, it seems that this little guy arrived just in time. I had been noticing a lot of red coloring near my nose and cheek areas as of late, but had no idea how to calm it. Many of my skincare products drive to bring circulation to my face, meaning that it's usually as red as a beet afterwords, so I'm guessing that it's a good thing that this one isn't like that. In fact, it was great, as Ocean Potion is great for reducing inflammation and redness. The effects only proved that much like yourself, sometimes your skin just needs a break.

What are the ingredients?

This mask is EXTREMELY simple. Literally a dream, considering I can pronounce all of the ingredients. Here's what's in the potion below.

  • Kelp
  • Irish Moss
  • Safflower Seed Oil
  • MSM or Methyl Sulfonyl Methane (a pure organic sulfur found in plants)
  • Spirulina
  • Ocean Mineral Complex

The Ocean Potion is also free from parabens, artificial fragrances, fillers, petroleum derivatives, carcinogens and more. It is also cruelty-free and vegan.

What is Complex Beauty like?

After looking into the company, it's actually really cool. Rather than considering themselves a skincare brand, they consider themselves as more of a movement.

By creating their own hashtag (#complexbabe), it seems that a new fanbase might spread throughout the skincare realm, so be ready for it. The company is, overall, a true message that skincare is about self care, and that self care empowers everyone around you (including yourself). They want you to live your life, and to have access to skincare that means something, but that can also help you. They aren't just trying to sell you a product or a lifestyle—they actually want you to live it. They want you to make it. Or at least that is my understanding.

Would I buy the product again?

Here comes the big question. And the answer is? Yes. My skin feels at peace after rinsing off this miracle treatment. You're supposed to leave it on for around 15-20 minutes, but I've been wearing it for about an hour (I have it on as I'm writing the review), and it feels great. I wish they had an overnight version!

After rinsing it off, I do notice that my face looks a lot calmer. The red spots near my nose are not nearly as noticeable, and I look as if I've just stepped out of the spa. So, yes, it gives you glow. My skin is buttery, soft and definitely moisturized.

I think what I like best about this mask is that I can do this pretty much at any time. It doesn't make my face look dry or red, so it doesn't have to be done at night during an evening in. It's also fast enough to do in the morning before starting my day, and I can move my face! Which is a huge plus!

After running out of the sample, Ocean Potion will definitely be a permanent addition to my collection. So, if you're looking for a low-key product with just as much POW for your skin, I'd look into this. I think that Complex Beauty is onto something.
